The Temporary Resident Visa Explained

Nigerians travelling to Canada for tourism, family visits, or short business trips need a Temporary Resident Visa, commonly called a visitor visa. Applications are submitted online through the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) portal.

Unlike some other countries, Canada requires biometrics to be given at a Visa Application Centre, usually in Lagos or Abuja, shortly after submitting your online application.

Key Documents for Your Application

IRCC places strong emphasis on demonstrating that you have sufficient funds and genuine reasons to return to Nigeria after your visit.

  • Valid passport with at least one blank page
  • Digital photograph meeting IRCC specifications
  • Bank statements covering the last six months
  • Letter of employment or business registration documents
  • Invitation letter, if applicable
  • Proof of ties such as property, family, or ongoing studies

Processing Times and Fees

Processing times can vary considerably, often ranging from a few weeks to a couple of months, depending on application volumes. The visa fee is charged in Canadian dollars, with an additional biometrics fee payable separately.

  • Visitor visa fee is charged per applicant
  • Biometrics fee is separate from the visa fee
  • Family applications may qualify for a biometrics fee cap
  • Fees are non-refundable regardless of outcome

Common Reasons for Delay

Incomplete financial documentation and unclear travel history are frequent causes of extended processing. Providing a clear cover letter that explains your itinerary, funding, and intent to return to Nigeria can help IRCC officers assess your file more efficiently.

Getting Support with Your Application

Our visa assistance service helps applicants put together accurate, well-structured documentation for their Canada visitor visa application. As with all visa categories, the final decision belongs solely to IRCC, and no agency, including ours, can guarantee approval.

What we focus on is helping you present your case as clearly and completely as possible, reducing the chances of avoidable delays or refusals.
