Dubai & UAE Visa From Nigeria (2026): Types, Cost and Timeline

Dubai is the single most requested destination in our Lagos office, and the UAE visa is also the one people most often misunderstand. Nigerians do not get a visa on arrival in the UAE. Every trip needs a visa approved before departure, and it is applied for by a sponsor — an airline, a hotel, a licensed travel agency or a UAE resident — rather than by you directly at an embassy counter.

This guide sets out the visa types, the realistic cost, the documents that decide approval and the timeline to plan around. Fees and rules are set by the UAE authorities (GDRFA and ICP) and change without notice, so treat the figures here as planning ranges and confirm the current fee before you pay.

The Visa Types Nigerians Actually Use

Almost every leisure trip from Nigeria falls into one of these categories.

  • 30-day tourist visa (single entry) — the standard short holiday visa, valid for entry within 60 days of issue
  • 60-day tourist visa (single entry) — for longer stays, family visits or a trip combined with business meetings
  • Multiple-entry tourist visa — for travellers with strong travel history who will return within the validity period
  • 48-hour and 96-hour transit visas — only useful if you are connecting through Dubai or Abu Dhabi on one ticket
  • Visit visa sponsored by a UAE resident — a relative or employer in the UAE files it for you

What It Costs From Nigeria

Budget in three parts: the visa fee itself, the service or sponsor fee, and the mandatory extras. In 2026 a 30-day tourist visa arranged from Nigeria typically lands in the region of ₦180,000 to ₦280,000 all-in, and a 60-day visa noticeably higher. The spread is wide because sponsors price differently and the naira rate moves.

  • Government visa fee — set in dirhams, converted at the day's rate
  • Sponsor or agency processing fee
  • Insurance covering the full stay, which the UAE requires
  • Change-of-status or extension fees only if you extend inside the UAE

Documents That Decide the Outcome

UAE applications are document-light compared with a UK or Schengen file, but the checks on Nigerian applicants are strict, and a weak financial picture is the usual reason for a refusal.

  • International passport valid at least six months, clear colour scan of the data page
  • Recent passport photograph on a white background, correct dimensions
  • Confirmed return flight reservation
  • Confirmed hotel booking for the full stay, or a host's Emirates ID and tenancy contract if you are staying with family
  • Bank statement for the last three to six months showing a healthy, regular balance
  • Employment or business proof — letter, payslips or CAC documents
  • Travel insurance valid for the whole trip

How Long Approval Takes

Straightforward files are often approved in three to five working days. Allow ten working days in practice: applications submitted just before a UAE public holiday, or ones that trigger a security check, take longer. Do not buy a non-refundable ticket before the visa is issued unless your sponsor requires a paid ticket as part of the file.

Common Reasons Nigerian Applications Are Refused

  • Bank balance that appeared suddenly days before the application
  • Name or date-of-birth mismatch between the passport and the application form
  • Previous overstay in the UAE, or an unresolved immigration record under an old passport
  • Hotel booking that does not cover the full stay requested
  • Blurred or cropped passport scan — the most avoidable rejection of all

After Approval: What to Carry

Your e-visa arrives as a PDF. Print it, save it offline and keep it with your ticket. Immigration in Dubai and Abu Dhabi may ask for your hotel address, your return ticket and evidence of funds, so keep those reachable rather than buried in checked luggage.
