The ascent to the plateau winds through 11 hairpin bends cut into the green mountainside, gaining more than 1,500 metres of altitude in a short but dramatic drive.
It is one of the most photographed roads in Nigeria, with viewpoints along the way looking back over the valley you just left.
Good to know
Drive slowly and use low gear on the descent.
Stop at the marked laybys for photos rather than on the bends themselves.
